Reading and writing are integral to the success of all students. This school year your students will engage with a variety of literature in individual, group, and classroom reading tasks. We will read a wide range of books, articles, and short stories that cover a variety of literature styles and genres to best engage and interest every young reader. As writers, your students will discover and explore how to progress through the writing process from an idea to a complete essay as they learn to write narrative, informational, and argumentative essays.
Please encourage your child to always be reading a book, graphic novel, magazine, or comic book at home for at least 20-30 minutes each night. Studies show that students who engage in free reading every day become successful learners in every subject area. Encourage your child to find any reading material that interests them and then engage your child in a discussion about what they have read. Trips to the library are a wonderful family activity that allows students to explore all the world of the written word!
As a school, we will be participating again in reading the Rebecca Caudill Young Reader's Award List this year. Each student is encouraged to read several books from the award list and will have an opportunity to vote for their favorite novel off the list for the official state 2016 Caudill Award as well as voting for Park School's favorite book as a part of the Park School Book Battle! As always, I will be encouraging the students in class to read these books, but please also make these novels a part of your home reading routine.
