Today, the students played a game in which they modeled the changing population of a wolf pack. Students watched and experienced the influence of human interactions, food shortages, natural death, and pack interactions on the population of their changing wolf packs. As we explore the importance of wolves as a keystone species in the ecosystem and the effects of a variety of limiting factors on animal populations, this activity helped model and bring these concepts to life to students.
This week, the students have been practicing their knowledge of the scientific method in the science lab. Each lab group placed gummy bears in different types of liquid and then measured the results of how each gummy bear changed over night in the various liquids. The sixth grade students have turned into wonderful scientists and are looking forward to many more labs to come!
